Why is my status check stuck on “Expected - Waiting for status to be reported”?

This means your Git provider hasn’t received the expected status for the pull request commit. Check the following:

  1. Confirm that the Chromatic build ran and that its commit SHA matches the pull request’s head commit. If they differ, correct the Git environment variables and run another build. Set all three variables when you override the Git context.
  2. Check that your project is linked to the repository and that the Git provider access token is valid under Manage » Configure » Connected applications. If the token is invalid, reconnect the provider, then run another build.
  3. Check whether your Git provider requires a check that’s disabled in Chromatic, such as UI Review. Chromatic doesn’t send a status for a disabled check. Enable the corresponding check in Chromatic’s project settings or remove the requirement in your Git provider. See Check status by scenario.
  4. Check your provider’s GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket status page for an incident affecting commit statuses.

For more help checking repository connections and Git context, see Why aren’t pull request checks syncing with my Git provider?.

If UI Review shows pending changes, complete the review before expecting a passing UI Review check. If the review has passed but the status remains stale, push a new commit to trigger another build. A provider API rate limit can also delay a status.

If the status still doesn’t update, use our in-app chat to contact us or email us at support@chromatic.com. Include the build and pull request URLs so we can check for a rate limit.
